Windows may display an error message as code 39. This occurs when the installation or reinstallation of drivers fails due to a damaged or missing drive. This operating system affects Code 39 due to registry problems.
The error codes in the Device Manager are for the Device Manager only. If you see the Code 39 error elsewhere in Windows, it is probably a system error code that you should not fix as a Device Manager problem.

Here are some useful fixes for Device Manager Error 39
Delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters register values
A common cause of code errors 39 is the corruption of these two specific registry values in the registry key of the DVD/CD-ROM drive class.
Note: Deleting similar values in the Windows registry could also correct a code error 39 that occurs on hardware other than a DVD or CD drive. The UpperFilters/LowerFilters tutorial above shows you exactly what you need to do.
Update device drivers
Updating the device driver via Windows Update
– Update the hardware device driver via Windows Update.
The device driver has been updated from the manufacturer’s website.
– Update the device driver from the manufacturer’s website. Follow the installation or update instructions.
- If the device has been pre-installed on your computer, visit the computer manufacturer’s website.
- If the unit was installed after the computer was purchased, visit the unit manufacturer’s website.
- If the device is preinstalled on your computer and the computer manufacturer does not have an updated driver for the device, visit the device manufacturer’s website.
Note Make sure the installed device drivers are compatible with your current Windows version and platform.
Uninstall all USB controllers and devices from the Device Manager
Open the Device Manager. To do that:
Press “Windows” +”R” to open the RUN window.
In the “RUN” window “Open” box, type : devmgmt.msc
Expand the universal serial bus controller in Device Manager.
Right-click each controller or USB device and select Uninstall.
Restart your computer.
Wait until Windows has reinstalled all universal serial bus controllers.
Reconnect your USB device.
Install drivers if necessary.
Manual reinstallation of the device driver
- Under Start, search for the device manager and select the device manager in the results.
- Right-click the device in the list.
- Select Uninstall from the menu that appears.
- After uninstalling the device, select Action from the menu bar.
- Select Check Hardware Changes to reinstall the driver.
Note: You may be prompted to specify the driver path. If you are asked for the driver and do not have it, you can try downloading the latest driver from the hardware manufacturer’s website.
